⁸Listen! My beloved!
    Look! Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains,
    bounding over the hills.^(A)
⁹My beloved is like a gazelle^(B) or a young stag.^(C)
    Look! There he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
    peering through the lattice.
¹⁰My beloved spoke and said to me,
    “Arise, my darling,
    my beautiful one, come with me.
¹¹See! The winter is past;
    the rains are over and gone.
¹²Flowers appear on the earth;
    the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
    is heard in our land.
¹³The fig tree forms its early fruit;^(D)
    the blossoming^(E) vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
    my beautiful one, come with me.”

¹⁴My dove^(F) in the clefts of the rock,
    in the hiding places on the mountainside,
show me your face,
    let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet,

¹⁵Catch for us the foxes,^(H)
    the little foxes
that ruin the vineyards,^(I)
    our vineyards that are in bloom.^(J)

Galatians 5:16-26

¹⁶So I say, walk by the Spirit,^(A) and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.^(B) ¹⁷For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.^(C) They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever^[a] you want.^(D) ¹⁸But if you are led by the Spirit,^(E) you are not under the law.^(F)

¹⁹The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,^(G) impurity and debauchery; ²⁰idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions ²¹and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.^(H) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.^(I)

²²But the fruit^(J) of the Spirit is love,^(K) joy, peace,^(L) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³gentleness and self-control.^(M) Against such things there is no law.^(N) ²⁴Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh^(O) with its passions and desires.^(P) ²⁵Since we live by the Spirit,^(Q) let us keep in step with the Spirit. ²⁶Let us not become conceited,^(R) provoking and envying each other.
